Are Ann Arbor Taxpayers Being Treated Unfairly By The Proposal to Lease 281 Peak Parking Spaces to Core Spaces for Up To 50 Years?

I oppose the sale of the development rights at the Library Lane garage to the Chicago developer, Core Spaces, because their proposal only compensates the city for a fraction of the financial cost paid by taxpayers for the 196 24/7 spaces in the Library Lane garage and the 85 24/7 spaces in the Fourth and William garage. Those peak spaces are very important to downtown business owners in a parking system that is, at times, already very tight. Leasing that many spaces to a private party for up to 50 years in a system that is already tight will cause hardships for many of our residents and local business owners.
